CHARITY CHALLENGE:

VIRTUAL Cycle the Eastern Emirates

Does the idea of cycling 180 kms in 3 day’s interest you?

Whilst a group of Gulf for Good challengers will undertake the actual challenge from 1st – 3rd December cycling 180kms on mountain bikes through the Eastern Emirates, a support group made up of cyclists based anywhere around the world can cover the same distance over the same duration whether on a mountain or road bike.

Are you up for this cycling challenge?

Here’s how it works:

• We kindly ask for a minimum donation of AED100 to enter the event.

• You will then receive an email providing all the information you need to take part.

• For those who wish to keep the same pace you will have 3 days to complete the challenge, for those who wish to take a more leisurely pace you will have up to 22 January to complete the challenge .

GOOD LUCK!

Gulf for Good are delighted to be supporting two charity projects through Cycle the Eastern Emirates.

The first is the UNRWA Back to Learning initiative which focuses on refugee children going back to school. Over half a million girls and boys are enrolled in 711 UNRWA schools in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Gaza, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, where they receive quality education including flagship classes on Human Rights, Conflict Resolution and Tolerance.

Opening the schools at a time of great uncertainty for UNRWA and for the region, and during the COVID-19 era has necessitated the adoption of very strict health and hygiene measures in all their schools, and the planning of various learning scenarios: full return, half return/blended approach (part in school and part remote) and the possibility of fully remote education.

Education is the Agency’s largest programme. UNRWA is counting on the support of valuable partners to help keep over half a million girls and boys in schools across the region.

The second is Chichuchas Wasi, a comprehensive primary school in Cusco, Peru for impoverished indigenous girls who attend free of charge. There are over 120 students from 4-12 years old. Cusco faces a lot of rain and sometimes extreme weather and the school currently does not have an indoor facility larger than a classroom for events, sports, theatre presentations, or otherwise. This project is to build a dry multipurpose room for these activities.

In addition to quality academic education, Chichuchas Wasi provide daily high protein meals, on staff psychologist, yearly health evaluations, annual dental care every other year, parent meetings with psychologist, free uniforms, books and safe school transportation.
