Maxine and Emma's 24 miles in 24 hours

Story

Our names are Emma Brambilla and Maxine McKellar, year 11 students at Dubai college. We would like to support the following initiative as we feel that those living in communities where periods may not be understood and unnecessarily stigmatised could benefit from external support. We will be running 24 miles in 24 hours, an hour per mile in support of this cause, and would greatly appreciate donations towards this project.

TEN young Year 12 students of JESS Arabian Ranches, 6 girls & 4 boys are leading the charge for period empowerment by actively participating in the fight to help end period poverty and tackle the stigma and shame connected to periods. They are involving the younger students at their school and the parents of the surrounding community to help with the manufacturing of reusable sanitary pads.

The main objectives of this initiative are:

  • Distribute the sanitary kits in rural areas of Africa allowing girls to manage         their periods safely and with dignity being able to attend school
  • Empower young girls and women by training them to make reusable                  sanitary pads which are affordable and sustainable
  • Advocate in these rural communities about menstruation, health, and                hygiene

The students have designed and manufactured a Sustainable “Reusable” Sanitary Pad having identified a major challenge in the disposal of menstrual absorbents where women often throw them in deserted open areas or in latrines due to the deeply embedded socio-cultural taboos creating further problems to the environment.

Your support is fundamental for the success of this project.

THANK YOU
